Reasons for Root Canal Treatment

We can perform a root canal to help save your natural tooth from extraction, restoring it with a dental crown afterwards to help keep it protected for years to come. Some of the reasons in which we may recommend this treatment include:

  • An infection has developed within the tooth due to bacteria gaining access to the inner chamber.
  • A tooth is decayed beyond the ability to restore it with a filling.
  • A tooth is severely injured and cannot be restored with any other treatment option.
  • A tooth has become cracked or fractured.

What Does Root Canal Treatment Involve?

Root canal treatment typically takes place over the course of two visits to our office following your examination. First, one of our dentists will create a small window in the top surface of your tooth to gain access to the inner chamber. We will remove the infected pulp and sanitize the chamber, ensuring that no bacteria linger, and fill it with an antimicrobial putty called gutta percha. Then, we will restore the tooth for an added layer of protection.
